The Class A Advanced Stockton Ports have long paid homage to their city's distinctive port, California's largest inland docking point. Now, however, they're also giving a tip of the cap to their agricultural tradition.
The Ports unveiled a new alternate logo, uniform and color scheme Friday, with the emblem featuring "5 O'clock Dock," a character brandishing an asparagus spear in a nod to Stockton's distinction as the "Asparagus Capital of the World."
"This is truly an exciting way for the Ports to re-affirm our commitment to Stockton," team president Pat Filippone said in a news release. "We feel this new logo embodies the rich history and can-do attitude of our city."
The logo boasts a navy, shipyard gray and asparagus green color scheme, making Stockton the first professional sports team to incorporate asparagus green.
The alternate uniform features navy jerseys with white trim and "Stockton" written across the chest.
The new look is the product of a six-month creative process with San Diego-based Brandiose, which also designed the logos for the newly rechristened Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders and worked on the rebranding of Double-A Reading, which will be unveiled Saturday.
Mariners prospect Trevor Miller, who split this season between Class A Clinton and Class A Advanced High Desert, and White Sox prospect Jake Cose, who spent most of the year with Rookie-level Bristol, were drafted out of Stockton's San Joaquin Delta College in 2011.
Major League free agent Dallas Braden was raised in Stockton and drafted by the A's out of Stagg High School in 2004.
