Kinston Collard Greens
Settled as an agriculture colony, North Carolina's history has always been intertwined with agriculture and farming. Arguably, no agriculture crop symbolizes the strength and resiliency of the people of Eastern North Carolina more than the collard green.
Some southerners claim collards kept Union general William T. Sherman's scorched-earth policy from totally starving the South into submissions and many North Carolina families are living testament to surviving Great Depression winters with greens, fatback, and cornbread.
With that, the Wood Ducks are proud to announce they will celebrate the rich history of agriculture in Eastern North Carolina by becoming the Kinston Collard Greens for "Farm and Agriculture Appreciation Weekend".
